How the FML football card battle works

FML Battle is a positional card game built around a football pitch. A legal deck combines a goalkeeper, an outfield squad and a skill deck, then asks the manager to build through the lines before attacking goal.

Stamina controls every turn

Blue stamina pays for monsters, skills and goalkeeper powers. Spending it well is the main tempo decision: develop the board now, keep stamina for a defensive answer, or save enough to activate the goalkeeper.

Most monsters become ready on the next turn. Forwards have Rush and can attack immediately, creating the fastest route from an open midfield to the opposing goalkeeper.

Each position has a clear job

Defenders form the protective line in front of the goalkeeper and cannot attack. A midfielder is required before a forward can be played. Midfielders can carry the ball and fight but take return damage. Forwards can attack defenders without taking return damage.

A goalkeeper can only be attacked when the attacker controls the ball and the defending line permits the shot. Midfielders sacrifice themselves when shooting the goalkeeper, while forwards can shoot without taking damage.

  • DEF: blocks direct goalkeeper attacks.
  • MID: unlocks the forward row and can carry the ball.
  • FWD: has Rush and attacks without return damage.
  • GK: provides health plus a team-based active power.

Skills and signature powers create the tactics

Skills can deal damage, heal, draw cards, add armor, remove threats or change the board. Their stamina costs and levels determine when they can be used and how strongly they resolve.

Legendary monsters introduce team-based deploy powers. Mythical and Iconic monsters receive stronger signature powers, giving the rarest cards a distinctive role rather than only larger statistics.

Learn alone, then compete

Battle Academy is a short curated showcase on the real game board, using temporary premium loaners and a real Iconic Skill. The one-time hands-on Campaign Training lesson then uses four cards from your saved Fantasy XI before the staged Campaign opponents unlock. FML Cup and Champions Cup carry health and chosen upgrades between fixtures. Ranked PvP adds promotion, relegation and monthly rewards.

Managers can therefore learn without waiting for another player, then take the same collection into competitive modes when they are ready.
